Mahomet Area Youth Club - MAYC
The Mahomet Area Youth Club's mission is to encourage and train young people to develop their individual gifts and to be responsible citizens.
The Mahomet Area Youth Club provides programs for afterschool, evening, and full time summer care and education for over 300 children ages 6-18 yrs.
MAYC provides programs and activities in five key priority areas: Character and Leadership Development, Life Skills, Health & Nutrition, Creative Arts & Expression, and Sports and Recreation.
Children can choose from a wide variety of activities. They have daily opportunities for active play, creative arts, dramatic play, quiet activities, music, and enrichment activities. The Imagination Station room, for children 6yrs-12yrs, incorporates a Reading Station, Writing Station, Building Block Station, Science Station, Healthy Habits Station, Manipulative Station, and the Around the World Station. The Teen Succeed Program, for jr. high and high school students, work on teen-centered activities, such as: Drug Awareness, Character Building, Career Development and Education, Responsibility, and many more.
Every month, MAYC members voluntarily participate in a Community Service Project to give back to this wonderful community and to learn the spirit and importance of giving and helping others.
Homework Help is offered every day at MAYC by a qualified staff member or program volunteer. MAYC also offers a music program with weekly piano lessons that MAYC members participate in at no cost. The U of I Extension Office provides a program that teaches children how to make nutritious snacks and the importance of healthy foods. MAYC members also participate in weekly cooking activities to learn life skills, appropriate portion sizes, nutrition, and teamwork. These are just a few examples of the many wonderful activities at MAYC.
The Mahomet Area Youth Club has a strong partnership with the Mahomet-Seymour School District. This collaboration is vital to the success of youth at MAYC. We have on-going communication with school administrators, social workers and teachers in regards to the support needed for MAYC members to achieve success in-school.
MAYC provides inclusive programming to enable special needs children and their families to be active members in a safe, structured enviroment to build positive personal relationships and achieve success.
MAYC strives to develop partnerships with familes to provide support, modeling and a quality program for their children, while they go to work.
