Acolyte Ministry
MUMC offers a unique opportunity for your child to become involved with worship. We ask two children each week to serve as acolytes for the 8:15 traditional worship service. While the job is fairly simple, it is an important way for children to be a part of the service, and for the congregation to see young people who creatively serve the Lord.
The acolytes should arrive around 10 minutes early to get dressed in their robes.(Robes are hung at the right entrance to the coat closet.) Then, they find their candle lighters and discuss any last minute directions with the pastors. They bring the light of Christ into the church as the worship service begins, and light the alter candles. At the end of the service they re-light their candle lighter and extenguish the candles. They preceed the pastors as they file out after worship. This symbolically represents taking the Light of Christ out into the world.
Our members are always pleased to witness the children of our church in this important role. As the acolyte brings the light into worship, and then carries it out into the world at the end, church members will be able to get a close-up look at these devoted children as they continue to grow in faith.
Please call or email Laura Retallick for more information, and to sign your child up for a chance to be an important part of the service.
